Description:

Rare 1967 film of poet and "Beat Friar" Brother Antoninus (AKA William Everson) performing spoken word at the auditorium of St. Alberts College in Oakland. Antoninus is one of the key figures of the beat era and the San Francisco Renaissance that predated the beat generation. He was a monk in the Dominican Order for 18 years -- up until 1969 when he resigned from the order to marry a young woman (Susanna Rickson) that he once counseled and eventually fell in love with.
