Description:

Siena College brought Karen Tei Yamashita to campus for a reading from her latest novel, I-Hotel. The International Hotel in the 1960s San Francisco was one of the largest grassroots struggles for affordable housing in the country. Yamashita captured the social movements for Ethnic Studies and peace as well as the personal stories of many of the International Hotel residents, who were impoverished elderly Chinese and Filipino men. A highly regarded novelist, her body of work has become canonical in Asian American studies.
