Shakespeare Santa Cruz was a full-fledged, professional repertory theatre company that was established on the UC Santa Cruz campus in 1981 and ended in 2013.  The skillfully drawn set and costume designs, delicately annotated prompt books, and individualized sound effects seen here give a behind-the-scenes look at how producing theatre was a year long process--much more than “midsummer madness.” These intricate materials also hint at why SSC had close to a two million dollar operating budget by the year 2006--but they also reveal why SSC was known nationally for its unique merging of scholarship and performance.
